Originally from Beaumont Texas, Onaje is a multitalented musician whose talents include playing Vibes, Marimba, Flute, Piano, Percussion, and Vocals. A graduate of Texas Southern University in Houston Texas, Mr. Murray has toured and recorded with such giants as Hubert Laws, Gerry Mulligan, Walter Bishop Jr., Jean Carn, The Victor Dey Ghana All Stars, Ronnie Laws, The Lou Rawls Orchestra, Jerry Butler, Hank Crawford, Big Joe Turner, Toni Manieson, Stevie Wonder, Azar Lawrence, and The Louie Cruz Beltran Latin Jazz Band, to name a view. In addition, Mr. Murray’s Film scoring credits include the ground breaking independent film, Bush Mama, by Ethiopian film maker, Haile Germa. Mr. Murray was the honoree of The Mal Sands Los Angeles Vibe Summit XVII, which is sponsored yearly by the Los Angeles Jazz Society. His first recording project, “I Hear A Samba” was nominated for the N.A.A.C.P. Image Awards. The second project “Happy Feeling” was very well received as it was the first conceptual project introduction to Onaje's Neo-Tropical Soul Music Genre.

The current project “Breakthrough (Round Midnite)” is Onaje's most extensive collaboration to date as it includes, six Jazz Classics, which were recorded in Accra Ghana with The Ghana All Stars and the remaining seven Neo Tropical Soul Originals were recorded in Los Angeles.

Other credits include a recording on Stevie Wonder’s project, “A Time For Love” in which Mr. Murray played the Vibes on the song, “How Will I Know”. Onaje appeared in the film, “The First Daughter” which was directed by Forrest Whitaker. One other film, which he made a cameo appearance was the John Singleton film, Poetic Justice, with Janet Jackson and Tupac Shakure. Mr. Murray, also known for shaping the Jazz and Cultural scene in Los Angeles with The Onaje’s Cultural Teahouse in the 70’s and 80’s, currently performs at Hal's Bar and Grill in Venice Beach, California every first Sunday of the month and is quite active on The Los Angles Jazz and music scene.
